Queensland car tint laws
Queensland sets a minimum visible light transmission (VLT) for each window. VLT is the percentage of light that gets through the glass and film together, so any factory tint in your glass counts toward the limit.
- Windscreen: tint is only allowed on the top 10% of the windscreen.
- Front side windows: at least 35% VLT.
- Rear side windows and rear window: at least 20% VLT on vehicles with side mirrors on both sides.
- Reflective film: no more than 10% reflectance.
Medical exemptions are available in some cases through the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). Rules can change, so check the TMR website if you’re unsure. We only fit film that keeps your car road legal.
Car tint film types
- Dyed film: the most affordable option. Good for privacy and looks, with lower heat rejection, and it can fade over time.
- Carbon film: better heat rejection than dyed film, a matte finish, and it won’t fade to purple.
- Ceramic film: the best heat and UV rejection without going darker. It has no metal in it, so it won’t interfere with phone, GPS or radio signals.

What affects the price of car tinting

Yes. Old dyed film breaks down in the sun and turns purple or bubbles. We strip it, clean off the old adhesive and fit new film.
